Thank you for a successful Open Day
To the Committee Members, Members and Volunteers of Higgins Park Tennis Club,
Thank you for your ongoing support at Higgins Park Tennis Club. Your efforts for our 60th Anniversary and Open Day were commendable. The time, preparation and organization you provided is much appreciated especially when many of you had other commitments. Volunteers are the basis of many organisations and Higgins Park is no exception. There were many hours donated to the overall presentation of Higgins Park Tennis Club for our Community Day from painting, to gardens, maintenance, food prep, cleaning and equipment hire, hands on labour, administrative and technical support. Also, the setting up for the community event was a hands-on project from the physical setting up to the welcoming of visitors and members to working in the kitchen We also thank those who attended on such a wet day especially our VIP guests and the Mayor of The Town of Vic Park, Karen Vernon.
A special mention of thanks to our Life Members who attended, as through your contributions over the many years of the club’s existence we are able to celebrate 60 years. We were grateful to all who came along and joined in the celebrations and didn’t let the rain deter your presence. We had approximately 120 people attend the day and enjoy the reminiscing and the walk through memory lane where many photos and newspaper articles were on display. Many past players were surprised how many times their name appeared on the honour boards and children of past players found their parents names and were surprised with their achievements.
Our legacy of being a family and community Tennis Club is something we are very proud of especially as we came from the humble beginnings of four courts and a bamboo hut to the club we are today. Until a redevelopment five years ago, the Club boasted 12 grass courts but now it has the perfect balance of eight grass courts and eight hard, which are floodlit, which gives people the ability to play all year round. We are also one of only about three clubs in the metro area that has some floodlit grass courts. Hard work by many, across 60 years has paved the way for the future players, champions and members. Community inclusion of all from different cultures and backgrounds is the essence of our club.
A job well done!
Thanks again,
Angela Luttrell
Club President
